A Walk in the Park

Our first morning in Escondido we went on a walk through a park near my parents' home.  It was so great to be in a place with nature so readily accessible!  I let Miles go on the walk in his pajamas because he had already played outside (hello backyard!  Sooooooooooo nice.  Count your blessings if you have one) in them and got them dirty, so what gives?  My dad kept making fun of him, though, saying he looked dorky.  I can just about guarantee Miles asked what "dorky" is, but it was a while ago, so don't quote me.

Anyway, I like these pictures and the memory, so here they are:

San Diego and the USS Midway

Remember how I said Miles had scarlet fever over Spring Break?  So we didn't really have a Spring Break?  Well.  We pulled him out of school the second to last week and called it our Spring Break.  We went to visit my parents, sister and fam and see my other sister and brother-in-law for a couple hours in Escondido.  It was insanely nice.  The only bad part about going to wonderful places and getting to do lots of wonderful things is having to come back to Houston.  Yikes.

Here we are, loaded up on the plane and ready to go:
And excited about it!

The very first thing we did was go to the aircraft carrier USS Midway.
They had an audio tour specifically for kids which was really cool!  Miles seemed quite engaged and really enjoyed trying to find all the kid numbers.

It was super cool!

Also, funny story: My dad wanted to take Miles on a flight simulator ride.  You know, the kind that you control and can spin all around, upside down, etc.  Miles being Miles wanted to go with Grandma Sally and only Grandma Sally.  Little did he know she isn't the most...... uh..... joystick coordinated and they had quite the wild ride!  Pretty sure Miles was terrified and my mom came out splitting a gut laughing.  It was pretty funny and I wish I could have seen them in there trying to figure out what the heck was going on and how to get right side up!  The end.

Pleasure Pier 2015

Even though Galveston, TX is one of my least favorite cities in the United States of America, Pleasure Pier has become a must do.  A tradition, if you will.  Three years in a row.  Feel free to check out the other two: 2014 and 2013.

We started the visit out with a surprisingly good lunch.  Love it when the food you pay for was worth eating.

Miles had a blast on the bumper cars again, of course:

And was finally not scared on the carousel!  He's getting older, folks.  In fact, Miles did amazing this trip!  He went on almost every ride.  We were shocked and amazed.  The only rides he absolutely refused were those that went upside down.  Everything else he was game for and did awesome on.  Except for one, which was absolutely too scary for him.  I felt so bad.  Pure terror.  All I wanted to do was take it away.  We all survived, though!

Miles is kind of a pain to take pictures with, as seen below:

And that's another successful trip to Pleasure Pier.  Let's all hope we don't live here to go again next year!

1st Grade Field Day

Miles really, really, really likes it when I show up to school events and things.  This was his field day.  I don't remember having these in elementary school, but maybe I did.  Anyway, it was cute and funny and Miles will be glad to see it here.
