Random. Life. November 2015.

All work, no play for Dave.

My parents came to visit either on their way to or back from Central America where they did a bunch of dentistry on potential missionaries.  You can see my dad behind Miles who is very messily devouring his Smoosh cookie ice cream sandwich.  Yum.

Miles, totally not loving the purple gown at the Doctor's office.

A little bit of snuggling.

Christmas Lego building!

Just reading away with a nice wedgie.

Miles and his "fake life."  It has tapered off tremendously (maybe even all together...?  Except for sports.  He still pretends to carry our full seasons of hockey and baseball.  How he keeps track of who is playing who and what players are on different teams and who is in his playoffs... I'll never know.), but he had a full family and knew when all his kids birthdays were and all sorts of intense details.  The life of an only child, I guess!

And there you have the haps from November 2015!

Thanksgiving 2015

Thanksgiving 2015 in Houston was just the DAM three of us again.  We definitely delivered Meals on Wheels again, though I don't have any pictures to prove it.

We had some appetizers.  That was Miles' favorite part.

I'm about 99.9% positive we had steak instead of turkey since it was just the three of us and Miles doesn't like turkey anyway.
Gotta say, I'm glad to be so much closer to family so we can have less lonely looking holidays!

Miles Roller Skates (2nd grade, November 2015)

One of the fun things at Horn Elementary-- the roller skating.  Check him out in Kindergarten and 1st grade.

San Antonio (November 2015)

Remember when we lived in Houston and we would try to take any and every opportunity we could to get out of town?  I remember that.  San Antonio, my friends.
We caught a hockey game (Avs minor league team).

Went to the Alamo.

(P.S. I find it crazy that this is such a destination in Texas because the Alamo is where the Texans lost and lost badly.  San Jacinto is where they actually won, and the San Jacinto monument isn't nearly as hyped up as the Alamo.  I don't get it.)

(P.P.S. Texans [or at least Houstonians/Southeast Texans] pronounce San Jacinto like "San Juh-sin-toe.")

Went along the Riverwalk.

And just spent some DAM time together.

Random. Life. October 2015.

Here's a bunch of random photos of life from October 2015:
School project.

Miles still loves donuts as much as ever.  Shipley never really did it for me, though.  I'm Le Donut, through and through.

Trying, and failing to touch my nose with my tongue.

Astros game!

If my memory serves me right, this may have been the best and worst game we ever went to... I think it's the one where they could have beat the Royals to win that series and make it further in the playoffs, but the Royals rallied and won.  But it was a super fun game with a lot of scoring and home runs.  Pretty sure we pulled Miles out of school for that one!

My birthday flan from Hugo's.  This picture seriously puts me in mourning.  I don't miss Houston at all, but I really, really, really miss all my favorite food!

Halloween 2015

Can I just say, I love Miles and his wonderful Halloween costume requests.  They are always minimal work and money (which is super important because Halloween ain't my fave, and I'd probably want to claw my eyes out if I had to be sewing elaborate Halloween costumes), and usually pretty great.  For example, check out these Halloweens past, past, past, past, past. past.  Halloween 2015, though, will likely never be topped.  Miles was the one and only: Captain Underpants.

You should have SEEN how folks at our ward's trunk or treat reacted!  It was pretty funny.  All the kids knew, without a doubt, that Miles was Captain Underpants.  It was pretty great.
I had him wear two pairs of underwear for extra coverage.  :)

The day or night before Halloween we had some good ol' Houston torrential rains and things got pretty flooded in the early hours of the morning on Halloween.  These pictures are taken from our bedroom window, and are of the street that was right outside our Houston place (man alive, I do not miss it!).

Thankfully, none of that water made it into our townhouse thing we lived in.

AND, things dried up enough for trick or treating that Halloween evening.

Miles got loads and loads of "best costume I've ever seen" all evening long.

Obviously couldn't be Captain Underpants at school, so he opted for a baseball player:

Nothing I couldn't make happen with an Astros shirt he had, some high socks and some size 3T pants!  See?  Best costume requests ever.

For the Record: Another Fun Run (October 2015)

As I've delved back into this record keeping blog of mine, I've learned a couple of things:

1. I'm so glad I've recorded everything I have-- things that may have not been anything special that day or that year, are totally enjoyable memories now!

2. I'm so glad I've taken the thousands of pictures I have, and I need to be taking more these days.

That being said, as I'm going back through the months and months of pictures, I'm not going to leave anything out.  Even if it seems like, "Meh, who cares?"  One day it won't seem that way.

So check out Miles at his 2nd grade fun run at Horn Elementary in Houston.  And, if you have nothing else to do, compare to his fun run the year before.

First Swim Meet (October 2015)

Way back when, when we still lived in Houston and right before Miles started 2nd grade, we had him join the swim team at the YMCA.  Swimming has always been something Miles has enjoyed and just about the one thing in his entire life that he was able to approach and immediately engage in without any hesitation, fear, time to get comfortable, etc.  It really seemed to come naturally to him.  So when we found out the Y had a swim team, we presented the option to Miles and he was all jazzed for the opportunity.  Tried out.  Made it.  Done.

Here's his very first meet:

I'm willing to bet that one event was a 25 yard freestyle.

Looking a little nervous and/or concerned, no?

Wating to get in his lane.

Post race double thumbs up.

Post meet donuts and our beloved (and very missed) Le Donut.
Way to go, Miles.  You da bomb.

P.S. Looking back on these pictures and meets really makes me realize how laid back and easy those meets were compared to what he's doing now!
