Makalawena

Beautiful and ready for my daily adventure!

Oh man, Makalawena.  I want to go back right now.  We had to trek down quite a ways to it, but it was sooooo worth it.
I call it a trek and not a hike because there was pretty much no incline.

 Dave.

 I see the ocean!

 Ash.

Cool little reef-y thing.

I was really digging the contrast of the white and black rocks.

I took those pictures while Dave got naked in the bushes.  You know, to put his swimsuit on.

And now, behold, the final destination:

Oh my goodness, pictures don't do it justice.  It was so pretty and so nice.  We snorkeled here which was super fun and sort of creepy because we were all alone and snorkeling in the waves.  At the end of our snorkeling adventure, I had my back turned to the waves, didn't know one was coming and it broke right on my head and ripped my mask off.  I caught it because I'm so speedy and aware and smart and I really, really didn't want to lose that thing and have to pay for it.  Anyway, what a beautiful place!  Thankfully we were close to a pot smoking local and she pointed out a humpback whale not too far from the beach!  It was so cool!  Can we go back?!

The Other Side of Hapuna

We went exploring and found the other side of Hapuna.  The pictures from the previous post are just on the other side of that little piece of lava rocks and trees:
I couldn't believe how different it was from one side to the other!  This side had a lot of trees and picnic tables and significantly fewer people.  It didn't seem like a tourist spot.  We ate our Subway sandwiches at the picnic table chained to a tree, caught the sunset and took too many pictures.  But, hey, we were in Hawaii.  What if we never go back?!

We set up the tripod and experimented with some slow shutter moving water...

The sunset:

Once the sun got behind those low clouds, it got a little underwhelming.  Not to worry, we went back another night so you have another billion pictures coming your way.

That's just me, making our sweet ride look sexy.  You're welcome.

Hapuna

There was the threat of rain every day we were in Hawaii but, thankfully, it never made it to the beach and we were still able to have loads of fun.  I don't have a ton of pictures of our beach-y adventures because I was too busy beaching.  We also went snorkeling and to Dave's delight, he didn't get eaten by a shark after all!  I got stuck on some rocks in shallow water though and that was creepy and I was all huffy at Dave for abandoning me (or so I thought... turns out twas not so and I was just being overly dramatic.  Whaaat?)  and not raising the water with his Harry Potter wand, etc.  We survived.  And we saw a big ol sea turtle!  And lots of fish.  It was fun.

We went boogie boarding at Hapuna Beach.  The waves were great and it was super fun and I only lost my top ONCE.

I was so very pleasantly pleased to find that Dave and I still get along as well as we ever did, if not better when we get to spend some time together!  Whew!  It wasn't like, "Sooooo....  what's up, man?"  No, sir.  Laughs and jokes and good times.  Amazing.

In typical Dave fashion, he pushed his fun to the limit and boogie boarded until his arms were raw.  Fun times!
