Just for Miles

When Miles saw this post, he immediately asked me where the rest of the pictures were.  He had specifically acted like a dork when I took those pictures and, apparently, he felt jipped that there was not the customary onslaught of them up on the blog.  So here you go, buddy.  Enjoy yourself.

Happy New Year!

A DAM Christmas

Well, before the clock strikes 12 and we lose this year forever and Christmastime goes completely away, I wanted to put something up about our Christmas.  It was good.  It was great.  It was wonderful.

We tried to go out each weekend to check out Christmas lights-- since most of December has been warm, it was about the only thing we could do to feel Christmas-y.  The last weekend before Christmas we went to check out some neighborhoods around the Houston temple.  The temple was where I felt most Christmas-y, to be sure.

Christmas Eve we went to a friend's house for food, fun and some Christmas spirit with a little nativity play and singing of Christmas songs.

 Miles was a wise man...

...but he never did give that little gift to "baby Jesus."

Then, Santa came to town.  Our town.  And our house.  Check it:

It was just the three of us.  Miles was super into the magic of it all this year.  It was fun.  We ate cinnamon rolls for breakfast, nothing for lunch and french toast for dinner.  We stayed in our pajamas all day and just played with our new toys and spent some much needed time together.  It was marvelous.  Merry Christmas, and goodbye 2012!  Yikes!

Christmas Cheer

For just about all of December, it's been hard to feel like it's Christmastime.  Aside from a cool day here or there, it's been warm here in Houston.  Although I grew up in sunny Southern California, I've been in cold climates the last 7 Christmases.  So taking Miles out for a bike ride in a tank top, shorts and flip flops, sweating at a December t-ball game and feeling like anything 70 or below is pants weather is just weird.

I have wrapped presents under our tiny 3 foot Christmas tree now, though.  And that sure makes it feel like Christmas inside, even though it doesn't feel like it outside.

I took Miles to the mall a while back and he was too scared to go talk to Santa.
This is as close as he got.

I asked for a smile and this is what I got:
Attractive.

And if these pictures don't bring you some Christmas cheer...

Ok, how about these:

Merry Christmas!

100% Miles

I realize that this is way too many pictures of a t-ball game.  But Miles is so funny/annoying to watch play sports with his little distinct personality.  Dave keeps saying we need to get him a chess board and every single time I think he says "chest board."  Anyway, Miles will get more comfortable as the season goes on, but here he is at his very first t-ball game.  Pretty irresistible.

Everyone hustles and bustles on or off the field while Miles practices being a statue.

I love how he moves off the base for the incoming runner:

So Miles...

 Really examining that kid...

 Look at that boy RUN!

Pretty sure the helmet bugs him...

Whoops!  Forgot to run to 3rd!

 Instruction from dad.

This next group of pictures was taken over the course of about a minute while Miles was sitting with his teammates on the side line.  There is no better representation of how Miles just WATCHES everyone and everything around him.

If he changed his facial expression or moved, he may have missed something.  So, good thing he didn't.  Oh, Miles.  We love you.

P.S. It was like 80 degrees at this game.  I don't LOVE sweating in December, but whatever.

Miles started t-ball!  He's an all star.  Check it out:

Something About a Rose and a Thorn

Isn't there some saying about roses and thorns?  I feel like my life is full of them lately.  Roses.  Thorns.  Take for example, this past weekend.  I went to my best friend's wedding in LA.  It was so very marvelous and fantastic and beautiful.  It was really special to be in the temple again where Dave and I got married and have some time to listen and feel and remember.  I was totally overwhelmed with love for my man and my little family.

Rose.

When I got back to Houston after my 45 hour getaway, Miles had a wretched bed time episode/fit that stressed everyone out and made everyone grouchy.

WELCOME BACK!

Thorn.

In other news, this is a great look at Mr. Tongue-tied:
That's as far as he can stick out his tongue.

I'll leave you with the rose-y thought that it seems for the time being I will still be able to post!
